Darrell Cadman

Interview with the Artist

Darrell Cadman

Darrell Cadman is a Navajo silversmith who would probably rather be out hunting than standing at the workbench—but like many artists, his craft is what provides. Fortunately for collectors, that time at the bench has produced some truly remarkable jewelry. Known for his bold stamp work and strong use of silver, Darrell creates pieces that feel both rugged and refined.

Interview with the Artist
Daisy Cowboy (DC) – Would you rather be making jewelry or out hunting?

Darrell Cadman (DCM) – I’d rather be outside hunting. That’s what I really enjoy. But this is what I do.

There’s something about that mindset that shows up in Darrell’s work. His jewelry doesn’t feel overly delicate or forced—it has a natural, grounded quality. The silver is substantial, the designs are confident, and everything feels built with purpose.

DC – Your work is really known for the stamp work. Has that always been your focus?

DCM – Yeah, I like doing stamp work. You can do a lot with it, just using different patterns and spacing.

Darrell’s stamp work is what sets his pieces apart. Deep impressions, clean lines, and balanced layouts give his bracelets and necklaces a distinct look. Even when he incorporates turquoise, the silverwork remains a major part of the design rather than just a backdrop.

DC – You use some incredible stones in your work too. How do you decide what to use?

DCM – I like good turquoise. If I find a stone I like, I’ll build something around it.

That ability to pair strong silverwork with high-quality stones is part of what makes his jewelry so appealing. Whether it’s a bold cuff or an intricate necklace, the materials always feel carefully chosen and well matched.

DC – Your family has a strong reputation in silversmithing. Did that influence your path?

DCM – Yeah, being around it, you learn. My brother Andy does similar work, and Sunshine too. You pick things up.

Darrell is part of a well-known family of Navajo silversmiths. His brother Andy Cadman shares a similar bold, stamped style, while his half-brother Sunshine Reeves is widely recognized for his own distinctive work. Despite those connections, Darrell’s jewelry stands on its own.

DC – What kinds of pieces do you enjoy making the most?

DCM – Bracelets, necklaces… I’ve done boxes too. Just depends on what I feel like working on.

From heavy silver cuffs to detailed concho belts and even handmade boxes, Darrell Cadman’s work shows both range and consistency. No matter the piece, the craftsmanship and attention to detail remain the same.

For someone who would rather be outdoors, Darrell has built a body of work that keeps him firmly recognized as one of the strong traditional silversmiths working today.
