Bold, expressive, and unmistakably handmade—this wide tufa cast cuff by Navajo artist Lester James is a true statement piece. Drawing inspiration from earlier works by Monty Claw
Kingman Turquoise | Sterling Silver
Bold, expressive, and unmistakably handmade—this wide tufa cast cuff by Navajo artist Lester James is a true statement piece. Drawing inspiration from earlier works by Monty Claw, James brings his own vision to life through both lapidary skill and traditional casting techniques.
The face of the bracelet is entirely filled with a mosaic of old Kingman turquoise, each stone carefully cut and set to create a dynamic, almost architectural inlay. No two pieces are alike—some stones rise slightly above the surface while others sit low, creating depth and movement across the cuff. The variation continues in the material itself, with stones ranging from richly webbed matrix to nearly pure blue, alongside cuts that vary from bold blocks to slender slices of Arizona turquoise.
The wide silver cuff is tufa cast, giving it that signature organic texture, especially noticeable along the terminals. On the reverse, James leaves part of the natural casting visible, even allowing a glimpse of the turquoise from behind—a subtle but powerful reminder of the handmade process and the raw materials within.
This is more than a bracelet—it’s a wearable landscape of stone and silver, showcasing both the unpredictability of turquoise and the artistry required to bring it all together.
