You never know where the next great turquoise stone will appear. We are always searching trading posts, rock shops, and silversmith supply stores throughout New Mexico looking for stones that local artists can transform into handmade jewelry for Daisy Cowboy. During a visit to Zuni, New Mexico, we stopped into Turquoise Village, a shop filled with materials often used by Zuni fetish carvers. Sitting among the trays of stone was a collection of Persian Turquoise in a wide range of blue colors and matrix patterns. Mixed into the tray were several exceptional cuts that immediately stood out.

One of those stones found its way into the hands of Navajo silversmith Calvin Martinez, who turned it into this bold handcrafted sterling silver ring. The design centers around an oval cut of Persian Turquoise filled with dramatic a dramatic deep blue and natural matrix that give the stone depth and movement. Calvin balances the vivid turquoise beautifully against heavy traditional silverwork that gives the ring a strong Southwestern presence.

The stone sits inside a twisted wire bezel surrounded by deep oxidized silver. Large hand stamped silver drops and geometric stamp work frame the setting, creating a design that feels both classic and powerful. The wide sterling silver ring shank tapers comfortably while continuing the hand stamped details down each side.
